beauty & contemplation

Inspired by the Rothko Chapel in Houston, TX, every piece of artwork at the Peace House has been hand-selected to welcome the viewer into experiencing the stillness that moves.”

The artwork on display at the Peace House serves a quiet but intentional purpose. In many Buddhist traditions, meditation is often preceded by a practice called “gladdening the mind”—turning our attention toward beauty, kindness, and wisdom to gently settle the heart. These pieces are here to help you do just that, offering a space to pause, take in something wholesome, and begin your meditation from a place of joy & openness.

At the same time, each piece resists easy interpretation. There are no fixed meanings here, no single way to see. This ambiguity is an invitation to let go of labels, to rest in experience itself, and to meet what arises with openness and curiosity. In this way, the artwork is also a gateway into “not-knowing,” a reminder of the vast, ungraspable space where practice begins.
